The Party
The Brisbane Convention and Entertainment Centre was transformed into a festive wonderland on Sunday December 2, when thousands of disabled , disadvantaged and terminally ill children from across South East Queensland celebrated Christmas with the objective to make the children smile!
The 18th annual 4KQ Variety Special Children’s Christmas Party is one of 15 parties across Australia, Canada and New Zealand to cater for more than 35,000 special children.
The day was a huge united effort from volunteers, sponsors, enthusiastic police, SES volunteers who had rallied to help set up and dismantle displays, help with catering and hand out toys, to give children in these circumstances a happy day they will treasure.
Richard Wilkins and Coffee Club’s John Lazarou co-hosted this year’s party, with a diverse entertainment lineup including the River Boys from Home and Away, Laurie Lawrence’s Kids Alive show, Bob the Builder, Duncan and Tara from CBeebies, music by Forever Road, Georgia McCarthy, Mirusia Louwerse, India-Rose Madderom and a spectacular entrance with the 501st Legion and the Queensland Police Pipes and Drums.
The biggest star of all was Santa who arrived on a sled pulled by his team of Samoyed ‘reindeer’. Every invited child received at least 3 high quality gifts from the present room and a special one on one with Santa.
A BIG Thank You to all the sponsors, volunteers and community minded individuals. This day could not be possible without your help and immeasurable support.
